An Eight-pointed star is an ancient and widespread symbol in Russia known to the early 20th century. The eight-pointed star of Bethlehem, under which Jesus Christ was born, is found on all Russian icons of the Virgin Mary, patron saint of Russia, and symbolizes Russia. The eight-pointed star in Russia is called “Russian star, the star of the Virgin, Star of Bethlehem.”

In dopravoslavnoy Russia, the ancient Russov eight-pointed star signifies the presence of the chief deity; she was portrayed on the military banner, on clothing, on all the important things of life and worship.

In Orthodox Russia an eight-pointed star was just as important. Eight– Star of Bethlehem – lit up the sky at the time of the birth of Christ, and, moving across the sky, led the Magi to the cradle of Christ for worship.

Eight-pointed stars are present in all phenomena representing the Russian icon of the Virgin as depicted on her shoulders and head. Thus, the eight-pointed star is the star of the Virgin, as well as the Mother of God – the patroness of Russia, the eight-pointed star.
 .
In the Christian tradition vosmikonechnaya star means eternity, complete stability, going beyond partite (earthly) world. Eight lies between the lower and upper set of triunities. Angelic, fiery, menacing and merciful Space, “pesch fiery” hide and reveal at the same time last secrets of the Divine.
.
In the symbolism of the number eight Orthodox means life to come. A future life is sometimes called the “eighth day” – life outside of Earth’s calendar..
